No local tsunami warning issued after Canada quake

TAIPEI--Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said yesterday it will not issue a tsunami warning following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Canada's Pacific coastal province of British Columbia at 11:04 a.m. Sunday Taiwan time.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Haida Gwaii off the west coast of British Columbia, at a depth of 17 kilometers, according to the bureau.

As of 3 p.m., Taiwan has yet received any tsunami warning from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the bureau said, adding that it will closely monitor the situation.
