TAIPEI -- Opposition Democratic Progressive Party Chairman Su Tseng-chang said on his Facebook page Friday that he endorses the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan.
“I'm sorry that I won't be able to join the parade in person but I can make it clear here that I support the legalization of same-sex marriage,” Tseng wrote one day prior to the 10th Taiwan LGBT Pride parade.
“Homosexual relationships happen naturally,” he said, “just like the Lady Gaga song 'Born this Way.'”
Taiwanese society progresses in sync with the global community and many people in Taiwan now know that sexual orientation can be multifaceted, he said.
The veteran politician said he remembers chatting with openly gay friends in 2010 and described the conversations as “natural and pleasant.”
The legalization of same-sex marriage is a human right to which everybody is entitled and should be respected, he said, adding that he wishes great success for the upcoming parade.
