AIT to answer visa waiver questions via Facebook

TAIPEI -- The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said Friday that it will answer questions about the new U.S. Visa Waiver Program on its Facebook page.

The AIT, which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic ties, posted on its Facebook page that it will answer questions on the program between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 28.

This will be the first time AIT has organized such an activity via Facebook, with questions fielded in either Chinese or English.

The AIT also said that due to the limited time for the Facebook event, people can also email their questions to visaniv-ait@state.gov.

With Taiwan's admission to the program Nov. 1, local citizens will be freed from the cumbersome process of obtaining a U.S. visa at a cost of NT$4,800 (US$164) per application.
