Minimum hourly income to rise to NT$109 in 2013

TAIPEI--The Council of Labor Affairs announced yesterday that the minimum hourly wage will be increased from NT$103 (US$3.50) to NT$109, beginning next year.

The announcement came after the Cabinet decided in late September to raise the minimum hourly wage but to put on hold a plan by the council to also raise the minimum monthly wage until the economy improves.

The current monthly minimum wage stands at NT$18,780. The council wanted it increased by NT$267 to NT$19,047.

The council said employers that violate the hourly wage hike, which will take effect Jan. 1 next year, will face fines of between NT$20,000 and NT$300,000.
