Deputy minister of MAC quits to return to teaching

TAIPEI--The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) said Saturday that it had approved the resignation of Deputy Minister Kao Charng.

The nation's top China policy planner said in a news release that Kao wants to return to his teaching job at National Dong Hwa University in Hualien County and recently tendered his resignation.

"MAC Minister Wang Yu-chi respects Kao's career plan and wishes and reluctantly accepts his resignation," the MAC said.

However, Kao has accepted an invitation from the MAC to contribute his expertise in finance and serve as its adviser.

The MAC also said Kao's successor will be announced by the Executive Yuan.
