Taiwanese director takes film prize in South Korea

TAIPEI--Taiwanese filmmaker Yang Ya-che's movie project "The Rouge-sang de Chine" won a major award Thursday in the Asian Project Market category at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).

Selected from among 30 entries, Yang's work won the US$10,000 CJ Entertainment Award, which is sponsored by South Korea's largest film company, CJ Entertainment.

Yang has previously had two of his films screened at the BIFF. His "Orz Boyz" was screened in the Window on Asian Cinema category in 2008 and he won a Pusan Promotion Plan (the former name of the Asian Project Market) award with "GF*BF" in 2009.

"GF*BF," which was shown during the BIFF this year, hit local theaters in August and was nominated for Golden Horse Awards in seven categories, including best director and best original screenplay.

The Asian Project Market was established as part of the BIFF in 1999 to connect film projects with sources of financing. It is open to films in any stage of production that are not fully financed.
