Taiwan's nanotech output may hit NT$10 billion in '12: official

TAIPEI -- The output value of Taiwan-made products using nanotechnology is forecast to grow 6.7 percent in 2012, helped by government efforts to industrialize the cutting-edge technology, an official said yesterday.

The sector's output value will increase to NT$10 billion this year from NT$9.37 billion in 2011, said Leu Jang-hwa, deputy director-general of the Industrial Development Bureau, at the opening ceremony of the Taiwan Nano Exhibition.

Domestic companies have also invested more than NT$30 billion in nanotechnology to date since the government began promoting the sector in 2003, he said.

"The industrialization of nanotechnology in Taiwan has led to some good results, and our efforts in nanotechnology research and development have also been affirmed by the global community," Leu said.
