Nine local tourists injured in Indonesia bus accident

TAIPEI--Nine Taiwanese tourists were injured in fatal tour bus crash Monday in Bandung, West Java, Taiwan's representative office in Indonesia said yesterday.

The nine tourists, who sustained no life-threatening injuries, had been sent to a local hospital to receive treatment, Andrew Hsia, Taiwan's representative to Indonesia, told CNA.

Taiwanese expats and officials had visited them to provide necessary assistance, Hsia said.

He said that the bus was carrying Taiwanese and Chinese tourists when it overturned on a mountain road. Four people died, including one local guide and three Chinese tourists.

According to the representative office, the tourists had not been traveling through a travel agency, but had rented the bus themselves.

West Java authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
