Taiwan Tour Bus offers elderly discounts

The China Post news staff--The Tourism Bureau (觀光局) and travel agencies have offered a 20-percent discount from Oct. 1 to Nov. 15 for people traveling with Taiwan Tour Bus if they journey with a person older than 65.

Taiwan Tour Bus decided to provide services for elderly people as a response to a rise in the number of elderly people in society.

The Taiwan Tour Bus website also held an online poll to uncover the most favored tourist spots. The half-day tour of Lotus Lake (蓮池潭), Zuoying district (左營區), Kaohsiung City, won out. The half-day tour of Keelung harbor (基隆港), Yehliu (野柳), and several parks close to the North Coast came second. The one-day tour on Penghu Island was third.

Since 2004 the Tourism Bureau has cooperated with travel agencies, offering bus services from hotels to tourist destinations. Taiwan Tour Bus provides pick-up services from airports and hotels, tour guides who speak Mandarin Chinese, English, and Japanese, as well as options for travel insurance. Up until now, over 900,000 tourists have traveled with Taiwan Tour Bus, and more than 50 percent of them have come from abroad.
