Chunghwa Telecom eyes investment in cloud tech

TAIPEI--Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan's biggest telecom operator, said Monday that it will actively bid for the government's cloud infrastructure projects despite macroeconomic uncertainties.

Chung Fu-kuei, president of Chunghwa Telecom's Data Communication Business Group, said some companies prefer to invest in research and development during an economic down cycle.

"This is because the costs may be the lowest at that time. These companies will then be able to grow faster when the economic prospects improve," he said on the sidelines of a press conference held to promote the Taipei International Electronics Show.
