Taiwan students cook up victory in Australia contest

SYDNEY--Students of the Taipei Kai-Ping Culinary School won first place in an international cooking competition in the Australian city of Canberra Friday, the second consecutive year in which students from the school took first place in the annual competition.

Lin Hung-yu and Tu Jui-ting, who used Australian lamb and vegetables to create their winning entry, outshone eight teams from five countries at the International Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge that took place Sept. 24-29.

Wang Wei-ping, a teacher at Kai-Ping, said he was proud of Lin and Tu and their outstanding performance.

Lin, who has studied cooking for two years, told CNA that they found it difficult to cope with the environment because they found it to be different from the places in which they have cooked in Taiwan.

Taiwan's representative to Australia, Katharine Chang, attended the award ceremony and congratulated the students on their efforts.
