Solar firms eye US$10 mil. in orders at US fair

TAIPEI -- Taiwanese solar product manufacturers at a solar energy fair in the United States are expected to secure more than US$10 million (NT$296 million) in orders, a government-run trade promotion organization said yesterday.

Operating at 22 booths, the 14 Taiwanese companies at the show are displaying products such as solar power generation systems, polycrystalline silicon cell chips, solar modules and connectors, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said.

The Taiwanese participants include photovoltaic system component maker Topper Sun Energy Technology Co., and solar module suppliers Ablytek Co., and Tynsolar Corp., the council said.

They are among the more than 900 solar energy companies from around the world that are attending Solar Power International 2012, the biggest trade show of its kind in the U.S., at the Orange County Convention Center in Florida, the TAITRA said.

The international heavyweights include Sharp Corp. of Japan, and LDK Solar Co. and Trina Ltd. of China, the council said.

The exhibition, which is being held Sept. 10-13, was forecast to attract more than 20,000 potential buyers from all over the world and they are likely to place more than US$10 million worth of orders with the Taiwanese exhibitors, the TAITRA said.

The annual fair, jointly organized by the Solar Electric Power Association and the Solar Energy Industries Association of the U.S., has been held nine times in different U.S. cities so far and continues to grow, the TAITRA said.
