Imprisoned Chen given a catheter on urinary trouble

TAIPEI -- Former President Chen Shui-bian was reported Wednesday as having had a catheter inserted in prison following problems urinating, according to a Taipei Prison official.

Taipei Prison Warden Fang Tzu-chieh said Chen had had a thorough physical a day earlier at the Taoyuan General Hospital, during which he underwent partial anesthesia, which the warden said could have been the cause of the problem.

Chen is serving a 17.5-year jail term for corruption.
