Agents of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) yesterday uncovered nine gambling stations, arresting a total of nine people, including prime suspect, surnamed Chen, for profiting illegally from an online gambling website.
Investigators collected evidence from the scene, confiscating 11 computers, ledgers and monitors.
After discovering the online gambling website earlier in May, the CIB said, investigators found out that there were actually more than 10 gambling stations located across the island.
Authorities stated that the online gambling website not only provided broad network access for Internet users to bet on sports games, they even set up a monitor outside the gambling station in case of a police raid.
Findings show that online casinos provide various sports for gamblers to bet against, including games in the Chinese Professional Baseball League, Major League Baseball, Nippon Professional Baseball, National Basketball Association.
Police indicated that the amount generated by illegal sports gambling is estimated at over billions of New Taiwan dollars.
