TAIPEI -- Labor Minister Wang Ju-hsuan on Monday praised Chimei Innolux Corp., one of Taiwan's leading flat-panel makers, for its efforts in hiring people with disabilities, calling on more businesses to do so as well.
Once fined for not having enough disabled workers on its staff, Chimei Innolux now has more employees with disabilities as a percentage of its total workforce than any other company in Taiwan, Wang said, without giving a specific number.
A Chimei Innolux representative said hiring people with disabilities has benefited the company because the workers have proved to be skillful and highly sought after.
The Council of Labor Affairs stipulates that 2 percent of the workforce of public institutions with over 50 staff, and 1 percent of the workforce of private corporations with over 100 employees, should be people with disabilities, and violators are fined.
