The new NBA season begins in October, but the bickering has already begun on who has what it takes to snatch the title. According to local media reports, NBA point guard Rajon Rondo said that he would defeat Jeremy Lin in the new season, angering Taiwanese fans who have grown to be quite the loyalists.
According to ESPN reports, Rondo is an unabashed player who frequently voices his opinions boldly via media outlets. When asked about Lin at a basketball event in Hong Kong, he said, "It's a different season. He's going to be in all the scouting reports. I'm sure he's up for the challenge as well. He's played against the best so he knows.
"I hope he has success with the Rockets, except against the Celtics. We plan on beating the Rockets pretty bad this year and hopefully I have something to do with it. But he is going to compete and I wish him well."
Lin departed for Guangzhou after a nine-day trip in Taiwan, yesterday. Prior to the departure, Lin asked his fans to avoid bidding goodbye to him at the airport for safety reasons, since he would be leaving fast through customs.
During the nine-day tour, Lin participated in basketball training camps, a private three-on-three game, a charity event in Hualien and an evangelical gathering as the last stop of the tour. Lin chose the Hualien event as his highlight.
Humbled by the sudden rise to stardom, as well as being a devout Christian, Lin gave all the credit to his God for his success, saying, "No level of success could ever fulfill me until my heart was right with God first." As for his achievements, Lin said, "I know many of you might think I'm great or want to trade identities, but the most important thing is finding your own purpose in life that would be satisfying."
A participant of the evangelical event said, "You hear these sermons on success all the time. But because it came from a very accomplished person, it's a lot more powerful."
