The China Post news staff--Hualien County Magistrate Fu Kun-chi announced yesterday to donate his half-year salary to help reconstruct a community in the eastern county devastated by landslides from recent typhoons and floods.
Fu said he took the action in order to invite more people to lend a helping hand to residents of the Hezhong community in order to rebuild their homes and public facilities as early as possible.
The county chief said the residents in the community could face further and severe attacks from new typhoons and floods if their houses and facilities in the community are not reconstructed soon because the typhoon season in Taiwan is still not over yet.
Meanwhile, the Hualien County Government has allocated NT$48.38 million from its emergency disaster relief fund to help resettle flood victims of Siulin Township, carry out disinfection operations for a better environment, procure relief materials, and rent heavy-duty construction machines and equipment to help residents restore normal life as early as possible, said a county official.
