ATUNAS cultivates mountaineers with '2012 Broad Peak Expedition'

The China Post news staff--In order to cultivate Taiwanese mountaineers, sports brand ATUNAS in 2010 launched a project called "2012 ATUNAS Taiwanese Broad Peak Expedition," inviting explorers to climb the 14 most formidable summits in the world.

In a meeting held on Aug. 21, mountaineers Chuang Chou-min (莊周敏) and Huang Wen-chen (黃文辰) shared their 32-day experience in climbing Broad Peak (布羅德峰).

Chuang and Huang stated that although they had gone through an extensive period of preparation, not being able to succeed in reaching the summit of Broad Peak did not leave them feeling frustrated.

Cheng Kun (程鯤), chairman of Sun Own Industrial Co. Ltd. and also founder of the project, said, "We are dedicated in learning from the 'lessons of failure,' and we aim to utilize our valuable climbing experience for other Taiwanese mountaineers. We will keep cultivating Taiwanese mountaineers by promoting the largest mountain climbing project in Taiwan."

Cheng mentioned that one of the most important aspects of the project is to record each climbing endeavor for the benefit of others. "Before we set off, we always do background research on geography, weather, food, transportation, time schedule and equipment allocation," Cheng explained.

By 2009, ATUNAS had successfully competed its project of "Climbing the Seven Highest Mountain Peaks of the World," setting several remarkable records, not only in Taiwan but also in many other countries.

From Aug. 15 to Sept. 30, anyone who posts video clips of "Search of ATUNAS'Stories" on their Facebook page and leaves contact information at the organization's branch stores will have a chance to win a gift from the sports brand.
