TAIPEI--A new regulation that limits the daily travel distance for groups of tourists will take effect today to help prevent traffic accidents by allowing bus drivers time to rest, the Directorate-General of Highways said yesterday.
Tour buses must not travel more than 250 kilometers in a day, the agency said, adding that bus drivers must be given sufficient time to rest to prevent an increase in accident rates.
The new policy was a response to growing concerns about the safety and quality of whirlwind tours around Taiwan taken by Chinese nationals.
