Vice president meets top officials during Belize trip

BELMOPAN, Belize--Vice President Wu Den-yih met Monday with top Belizean officials on the final leg of his visit to two of Taiwan's allies in Central America and the Caribbean.

Wu discussed bilateral relations and collaboration in two separate meetings with Belize Governor General Sir Colville Young and Prime Minister Dean Oliver Barrow.

The vice president also invited Barrow to visit Taiwan and see what other assistance Taiwan can provide to Belize, one of Taiwan's 23 diplomatic allies, according to an accompanying official.

Later in day, Wu inspected Central Farm where a Taiwanese agricultural technical mission is based. Once the farm project is completed, the techniques can be transferred to Belizean farmers, the vice president said.

However, the Taiwanese mission must continue its assistance to the local people while it is developing new projects, he said.

Wu arrived Aug. 19 on his first trip to the Central American country after a visit to the Dominican Republic in the northern Caribbean. He is expected to return to Taiwan via Los Angeles later this week.
