TAIPEI -- A total of 18 Taiwanese athletes will setoff next week for the upcoming London Paralympics — the Olympic equivalent for athletes with physical and sensory disabilities — to compete in seven sports.

They will be competing in various track, field and road events, as well as swimming, table tennis, judo, powerlifting, shooting and archery.

Among the five table tennis players going to London, Wei Mei-hui, Lin Wen-hsin and Lin Yen-hung, all wheelchair users, are veteran athletes who have been competing since the 2000 Sydney Paralympics.

Lin Yen-hung, 54, the most senior of all the team members, won silver in the men's team event and placed fourth individually in 2000. Lin placed fourth in the men's team event in Athens in 2004 and fifth in the same event in Beijing in 2008.
