Taipei PC show opening hours extended after Saola

TAIPEI--The opening hours of the Taipei Computer Applications Show, one of the largest consumer electronics trade shows in Taiwan, have been extended since the first day was washed out by Typhoon Saola, the organizers said yesterday.

The show, now its 22nd year, will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the organizers said.

"It is the first time that the exhibition has been affected by a typhoon," said Charles Huang, deputy secretary-general of the Taipei Computer Association, which organized the event.

The consumer fair was scheduled to kick off Thursday, but the opening was postponed to Friday due to Typhoon Saola, which caused five deaths, 16 injuries, and millions of New Taiwan dollars in damage and losses throughout Taiwan.

"However, the weather factor is not likely to have much effect on business at the fair," Huang said.

Admission to the show venue at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1 is free.

Was there really give-aways for the first 100 people to attend the show? The show organizer advertised on various media including the internet that the first 100 individuals would receive free gifts including cameras, computers and other goodies. The government should investigate these false advertisements so people would not be blaming the government of special treatment, because this is not the nth time that has been done at the TWTC shows.
