The China Post news staffTaiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) announced yesterday a further cut in early bird ticket prices. Single-trip tickets between Taipei and southern Kaohsiung will be lowered to NT$1,000 on Sept. 1. Passengers can start making reservations for the tickets tomorrow.

There is presently a discount of 30 percent for early bird tickets that are booked 28 days before departure. Starting from tomorrow, the discount will be increased to 35 percent for passengers who make advance bookings for tickets to be used next month.
The 35-percent discount will cut the single-trip ticket price between Taipei Main Station and Tsoying Station in Kaohsiung City to NT$965.
Starting from September, there will be 832 trains offering seats to early bird passengers each week, which accounts for 91 percent of all regular train services.
In case tickets with a 35-percent price discount are sold out in advance, an early bird discount of 10 percent will be offered to passengers until all tickets are bought.
Early bird tickets with a 10-percent discount will be available for purchase at no later than eight days before departure (including the date of departure).
If such tickets are sold out in advance, passengers may, of course, purchase tickets at full fares.
Early bird discount tickets are available at all of THSRC's booking channels. Passengers are advised to purchase the tickets through the THSRC online booking system, phone booking hotline, or THSRC partnered 24-hour convenience stores.
Starting from September, the company will also extend the valid period of term tickets — which allow passengers to take eight trips — to 45 days from the current limit of 30 days, said THSRC executives.
The discount for such tickets, however, will remain unchanged at 15 percent.
Passengers who have already purchased such tickets may use the electronic facilities installed at high speed train stations to extend the valid period to 45 days.
Details and other relevant ticketing information are available at THSRC's official corporate website.
