Tropical Storm Saola may affect Taiwan next weekCNA TAIPEI--Tropical Storm Saola has formed near the Philippines and may affect Taiwan's weather next week, the Central Weather Bureau said Saturday.
July 29, 2012, 12:05 am TWN As of Saturday morning, Saola was centered 1,060 kilometers southeast of Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving at a speed of 14 km per hour in a north-northwesterly direction. Forecasters said the ninth storm of the 2012 Pacific typhoon season is packing sustained winds of 65 kph, with gusts reaching 90 kph. With the storm gradually moving towards the Bashi Channel between the Philippines and Taiwan, coastal areas in Southern Taiwan may see high waves in the next few days, the bureau cautioned. However, the bureau said a sea warning for the storm is unlikely to be issued by Sunday based on Saola's current development, adding that the island is not expected to see significant showers brought by the storm until July 31. Daily highs across the island are likely to remain between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius throughout next week, the bureau added.
