Newest HTC smartphones get approval to keep entering US

TAIPEI--The latest smartphones by Taiwanese vendor HTC Corp. have been permitted to continue to enter the United States while a trade agency is investigating whether HTC has violated an order to stop infringing on an Apple Inc. patent.

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), which can bar products from being imported to the U.S., said it has started an investigation into Apple's claim that HTC has continued to infringe on a patent in violation of an order issued in December.

The agency denied an emergency request to have the HTC phones, including the One X and EVO 4G LTE, detained at the U.S. border. The notice was posed on the agency's electronic docket, according to the reports by the Bloomberg. Due to the holdup in May, Sprint Nextel Corp.'s plan to sell the HTC EVO 4G was delayed. The phones were allowed into the U.S. after HTC assured U.S. Customs and Border Protection that it had worked around the Apple patent.
