Ex-US national security advisor arrives in Taipei

Jones, the current chairman designate of the Atlantic Council's Brent Scowcroft Center of International Security, is leading a delegation on a two-day visit, according to the statement.

He is expected to call on President Ma Ying-jeou, Foreign Minister Timothy Yang, Defense Minister Kao Hua-chu, Economics Minister Shih Yen-shiang and Taiwan External Trade Development Council Chairman Wang Chih kang, it said.

The visit is expected to provide Jones with a better understanding of the Taiwan-U.S. situation and boost his support of bilateral ties, according to the statement.

The military veteran was appointed as national security advisor by U.S. President Barack Obama in 2009. Before assuming the post, he served as chairman of the board of directors of the U.S. Atlantic Council and prior to that, was commander of the U.S. European Command.
