West Asian group to learn organic farming in Taiwan

Their experiences will be of great use to them because their home countries are transforming themselves and becoming more energy aware, said Teng Shen-ping, an official from the ministry's Department of West Asian Affairs, the organizer of the program.

“The program is also a great opportunity to promote Taiwan to the world,” he said.

The 23 people, aged less than 30 and chosen from a large number of applicants, hail from Turkey, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, countries that have large desert areas, he said.

“It should be a new experience for them to see how vegetables are grown here,” Teng said, while outlining a tour to an organic farm on the outskirts of Taipei.
