Yani Tseng denies retirement plan after recent form slump

The Taiwanese player said in a status update that she is trying as much as possible to enjoy playing golf and not care about the results.

Tseng fell short at the second LPGA major of the year, the Wegmans LPGA Championship. Tseng ended the fourth round on Sunday with a 76 to finish at 13-over-par 301, which is 32 shots over the total she posted in her runaway win of the same event last year. Tseng's poor performance left her in 59th place for the event, her worst finish in 26 games. It is also her first time in her LPGA career that she has gone over 300.

When asked to comment on the poor result, Tseng confessed that she felt torn. Randall Mell, a writer for golfchannel.com, said Tseng had “zero confidence left,” and even tweeted “Yani Tseng was right behind Grace Park finishing: 'I'm retiring, too. This game is too hard.'”

Tseng rejected the retirement claims after media picked up on the story. Tseng admitted that she is usually too hard on herself, and that most of the pressure comes from herself. She had been doing a lot of thinking and humbly accepts all sorts of suggestions, Tseng said. At the end of the message, she posted an illustration with the words, “Believe in yourself. You can do it.”

This was not the first time Tseng has mentioned facing psychological challenges, according to sources. She emphasized on her Facebook page that she will try to overcome her fears, learn from past mistakes, and enjoy every competition. She added in the end, “I believe I will be stronger and better!”
