Premium local produce store opens in Shanghai

TAIPEI--Taiwan opened a flagship store to sell Taiwan-grown produce in Shanghai earlier this weekend, in a move to promote Taiwan's agricultural products in the world's second-largest economy.

The premium store, named "Wan Hsiang," means sharing Taiwanese quality produce with people in Shanghai, according to Chang Shu-hsian, director-general of the Department of International Affairs under the Council of Agriculture (COA).

The store, being operated by private company Uni-President Dream Parks Corp., began a trial run last December. It is located at the Sun Moon Light Center, adjacent to Tianzifang, a popular tourist destination in Shanghai.

More than 300 agricultural products are on the store's shelves.

High quality fruits, such as the Black Pearl strain of wax apples, sugar apples, Jujubes and Irwin mangoes from Taiwan that have received the "Good Agriculture Practice" certification, are available at the store.

In addition, CAS (certified agricultural standards)-certified packaged food products, including dried mullet roe, rice, and dried shredded pork, are being sold.
