Lukang's '12 Lantern Festival concludes with great successA record of 12 million visitors from Taiwan and abroad flocked to Lukang, a coastal township on in western Changhua enriched with culture, during the past two weeks. Changhua Magistrate Cho Po-yuan and Tourism Bureau Director General Janice Lai jointly officiated the closing ceremony at 10:03 p.m. and passed the torch to officials from northern Hsinchu County that will stage the 2013 Lantern Festival activities. Drum troupes and arts performing groups from South Korea, Japan and other foreign nations staged performances to entertain visitors on the final day. In addition to displaying more than 10,000 eye-catching artistic traditional lanterns augmented by modern high technologies, the successful planning, integration of tourism resources like handicrafts, museums, local religious events, a wide variety of local cuisine, and smooth transport networks were attributed to the huge success of attracting record visitors. An opinion survey shows that more than 97 percent of travelers were satisfied with the arrangement of events, public transport services, cleanness of the showground, and environmental protection. There were streams of tourist buses taking local and foreign travelers to Lukang everyday. Those from abroad and mainland China said they were glad to have the opportunity to personally visit the impressive lantern exhibition at the ancient township of Lukang which was one of the second largest city in Taiwan for its role of cultivating active foreign trade centuries earlier. Organizers mapped out various travel routes encouraging people to spend the day time at scenic spots in the three counties of Changhua, Taichung City, and Nantou County before visiting the large-scale lantern show in the evening to enjoy arts and music performances while tasting local delicacies. Most visitors took the opportunity to travel from all directions of Taiwan to sightseeing areas, including Baguashan Great Buddha Scenic Area, flower exhibitions at Tianwei Highway Garden, four major museums, and enjoying mutton hot pots at Xihu and Xizhou in Changhua. | |||||||||||||
