Lin leads team to 7th consecutive win

Lin is Taiwanese: father

As the Taiwanese-American continued to stir a media frenzy around the world with his Disney-esque story, talks of his ethic origin heated.

While some reports claimed that Lin's ancestral home is in China because his maternal grandmother grew up in Zhejiang province before moving to Taiwan in the 1940s, Lin's father Lin Chi-ming (林繼明) said in an interview with the Voice of America that "I am eighth-generation Taiwanese, my son is ninth-generation Taiwanese.".

In an interview in Taipei with the New York Times, the baskeballer's uncle Lin Chi-chung (林繼宗) said that Jeremy Lin's father, had especially asked him to make the point that "for sure, they are Taiwanese."

Lin's parents were both born in Taiwan and later obtained U.S. citizenship, his uncle said.

In the mean time, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Thursday that Lin is automatically a Taiwan citizen because his parents were both Taiwanese citizens at the time of Lin's birth. However, Lin does not hold a Taiwanese passport, for which an application would be required, said Thomas Chen, director-general of the Bureau of Consular Affairs under the MOFA.

The MOFA's passport database shows 40 people with Lin's Chinese name — Lin Shu-hao (林書豪) — none of whom match his profile, Chen said, amid reports of Taiwanese and Chinese claims on the basketball player's national identity.

Lin to Visit Taiwan for Training Camp

Born in California, Taiwanese-American Lin said he looks forward to returning to the homeland of his parents after the NBA season to host a basketball camp and coach local children.

"I did that last summer as well," the soft-spoken rising star said. "I have a strong passion for the game and I have a strong passion for Taiwan. I would love to do that."

Recalling that "the experience last summer was a great one," Lin chuckled, "...the kids were awesome. It was one of the highlights of my summer."

According to a statement issued by Flight International Marketing Co. on Wednesday, Lin will personally design the program, which will be tailored to young players.

Try not to make any pointless arguments of who Jeremy Lin is. The news in the US wrote he is of Chinese or Taiwanese ancestry. Both are correct. In short, Jeremy Lin is a US citizen by birth with Taiwanese ancestry. Shut up, watch more exciting games so you will learn more.
