CAL, Chunghwa Telecom ink cooperation pact

China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest airline, and Chunghwa Telecom, the nation's biggest telecom operator, have recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement on developing information and communications technology (ICT) applications for the travel and tourism industry, aiming to develop innovative services to raise travel and transportation efficiency as well as service quality, according to a press statement released by CAL.

The “Chunghwa Telecom and China Airlines Strategic Alliance Memorandum of Understanding” governs the strategic partners' collaboration on cloud-based information, e-commerce, and reciprocal customer benefits. By bringing together Chunghwa Telecom's global voice and data networks, the Internet of Things (IOT) and integrated ICT cloud services with CAL's know-how, influence, and experience throughout the travel and tourism service supply chain, the alliance will accelerate the development of ICT applications in travel and tourism, as well as cargo and logistics.

In addition to promoting an intelligent travel and tourism industry, CAL and Chunghwa Telecom will cooperate on reciprocal member benefits, which will not only expand each company's customer base but will also raise customer satisfaction and boost the firms' competitive advantages and shareholder value.

CAL said in the statement that the two companies share a common strategic goal of introducing innovative services. As Taiwan's largest provider of telecom services, Chunghwa Telecom has been developing intelligent tourism and cloud services to support the government's call for more innovation in the travel and tourism industry and greater integration of ICT applications in transportation services.

For its part, CAL is committed to driving Taiwan's intelligent travel and tourism services and will continue offering industry-leading travel and tourism services through innovative products like cloud applications.
