LA Times calls Orioles' starter 'best investment'

TAIPEI--A three-year baseball contract the American Baltimore Orioles signed with Taiwanese pitcher Chen Wei-yin was one of the “smartest” investments in Major League Baseball (MLB) recently, the Los Angeles Times said in its Saturday edition.

The US$9.3 million deal between the Orioles and the left-hander, who previously pitched in Japan's professional league, was the “best” shopping among the MLB free agency acquisitions, commented LA Times reporter Mike DiGiovanna.

“A sleeper pick, the Taiwanese left-hander has a 93-mph fastball, a hard, curve-like breaking ball and the potential to be a No. 3 starter,” DiGiovanna said.
