Ma vows future for youth, Tsai stresses genderIn the third and last televised platform presentation forum attended by all three presidential candidates in the evening, Chairman James Soong of the People First Party (PFP) guaranteed more assistance to the small and medium enterprises as well as laborers. Ma stressed that his new priorities include financial support for all students lacking tuition, providing nutritious lunches for all schoolchildren, and giving them a rosy future with opportunities to maximize their creativity. Emphasizing on the education issues, Ma also announced the goal of enabling 40,000 Taiwan young people to take overseas trips and study abroad while attracting 100,000 foreign youngsters and students to visit and study in Taiwan. Ma started with the case of Chang Hui-lin, a female student who just graduated from university. Chang is one of the many underprivileged students in Taiwan and foreign nations receiving regular private financial assistance from Ma and his wife. She recently thanked Ma for helping her finishing study and earn her bachelor's degree. After winning reelection on Jan. 14, Ma said he will utilize public resources to assist all young people like Chang in the nation. Another major plan is to start an annual national survey of people's happiness index as early as possible, although the measure will undoubtedly add greater pressure on himself and all other public servants. For a peaceful and secure environment, Ma criticized Tsai of unable to explain the contents of what she advocates as “Taiwan consensus.” Ma pointed out that more industry and business leaders, including those backing the camp led by the DPP, have openly voiced support for the “1992 Consensus” allowing Taipei and Beijing to define the term “one China” respectively and respect each other's interpretations. To defuse Tsai's claims that he does not love Taiwan, Ma swore on his life to love and defend Taiwan. He also recounted all the patriotic activities he had personally participated in when he was a student. For more balanced development, Ma provided the figures showing that his administration has injected close to NT$700 billion in fund to support public investment projects in central, southern, and eastern Taiwan. Comments January 7, 2012 antoniolin69@ Yes, Tsai can be a possible female president. But that she can best bring forth peace and stability is a big question mark. Like most DPP members, she has a rebellious character which always provokes her counterparts and stirs conflicts between political parties inside Taiwan. She even denies the legitimate existence of The Rep. of China (on Taiwan) and the 1992 consensus. Mainland authorities claimed in different occasions that the 1992 consensus is the basic foundation of stable relationship for both sides. If there is no such foundation, talks, negotiations, cultural exchanges, trade, communication links would be stopped. How can Tsai bring peace and stability for Taiwan? Obviously she is a liar. January 9, 2012 mtsai16@ @ carltanongI don't doubt that Taiwan won't be better without Our Sinophilic Oracle's presence and wisdom. I cannot think of a better broken record than you for reminding us of both your father and KMT's pedagogy. | |||||||||||||
