The ongoing cold front that has brought temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan to lower than 9 degrees Celsius will not subside until tomorrow morning, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) announced yesterday.
The lowest temperature in a non-mountainous area in the country yesterday, 8.7 degrees Celsius, was recorded in New Taipei's Tamsui yesterday morning, the CWB said.
The CWB said the temperature in the northern part of Taiwan could become even colder today. The cold front will continue to affect northern part of the country until Friday when the temperature will begin to slightly rise then.
The CWB also issued special warning for heavy rain along the north coast, Keelung, Yilan, Taipei and New Taipei City mountainous regions.
Residents in coastal areas, Hengchun Peninsula in southern Pingtung County, and offshore island county of Penghu, Orchid Islands, and Green Island should also be prepared for strong wind, the CWB added.
