Frank Hsieh tells Liu to explain Yu Chang 'forgery'

By Lydia Lin--The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is not letting National Development Fund (NDF, 國發基金) convener Christina Liu (劉憶如) off the hook for providing “forged” documents in the Yu Chang case, this time with DPP heavyweight Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) telling Liu to “stop avoiding the issue.”

It has been 16 days since the DPP's last request for Liu to provide a sound answer regarding the documents, Hsieh said. If Liu was not the document forger, it is still her responsibility to inform the public who was behind the forgeries, he added.

Liu, also minister of the Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD, 經建會), had presented documents with altered dates implying that DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen had betrayed a conflict of interest when she chaired the erstwhile Yu Chang Biologics Co. (宇昌生技股).

At a press conference yesterday, Hsieh questioned Liu's “evasive” manner when it came to the Yu Chang data, remarking that much of information provided by the NDF appears to be unreadable and unclear.

In response, Liu lashed out by deeming Hsieh ineligible to speak as Tsai's representative.

The Yu Chang scandal involves neither Hsieh nor the DPP; as the central figure in the case, Tsai should be the one speaking up on her own involvement, the NDF convener stressed.

Liu also reiterated that at no point did she alter or forge the documents -- the data she presented was simply a photocopied document. Kuomintang (KMT) legislators also counterattacked by calling out Tsai as the evasive one, reasoning that if she did not commit wrongdoing during her time at Yu Chang as she claimed, she should be more forthcoming and open to questions.

The pan-green party continues to believe that Liu was in cahoots with senior KMT officials in an effort to smear Tsai.

KMT Legislator Questions Pan-green Poll

President Ma Ying-jeou's campaign office, “Go Taiwan, Bravo!” had issue with the latest poll released by the Taiwan Thinktank (財團法人台灣智庫), which showed that Ma and Tsai's support rate was only 0.4 percentage points apart.

The latest results from the think tank showed Ma's support rate at 39.5 percent, Tsai at 39.1 percent and People First Party (PFP) Chairman James Soong at 11.1 percent.

“Go Taiwan, Bravo!” was quick to point out past inaccuracies by the think tank and its pan-green leaning tendencies.

The chief executive of Taiwan Thinktank happens to be Tsai's campaign office spokesperson, Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), Ma's campaign office spokesperson said.

Remember Frank Hsieh. Miss Tsai is a TOPNOTCH lawyer herself. Advise her to come out to face the nation and the peoples, and answer all the questions frankly because the taxpayers have the right to know. And it's the important guideline for the people to decide in casting their sacred ballots.

IF Miss Tsai is afraid to face her own wrongdoing, then Miss Tsai is QUILTY. The commission of election should disqualify her candidacy to run as president of our country.
