SID pledges neutrality in probe of TaiMed scandal

TAIPEI -- The Special Investigation Division (SID) under the Supreme Prosecutor's Office said yesterday that it will handle a controversial case involving the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate in a state-invested biotech company strictly according to the law.

“We are colorless, neither blue (the ruling Kuomintang camp's attributed color) nor green (the DPP's color),” said SID spokesman Chen Hung-ta, in response to press queries on SID's move a day earlier to take away files on the establishment of TaiMed Inc. from the National Development Fund (NDF) under the Council for Economic Planing and Development (CEPD).

“Seizing the relevant files is necessary to collect all the evidence, prevent it from being destroyed or forged, and allow the truth to be discovered later,” argued Chen, falling short of saying the SID has begun to launch probes into the case, which saw both the KMT and DPP exchange rhetorical fire over the issue, just one month before the Jan. 14 presidential election.

KMT legislators suspected that DPP Chairwoman and presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen had manipulated NDF's investments in TaiMed when she was vice premier in the administration of former President Chen Shui-bian in 2007, and then served as the chairperson of the biotech company several months after she stepped down from her government post in May, 2007.

They said Tsai had done so in violation of the “revolving door” act that bans government officials from working for the businesses under their supervision within three years after retiring from the public sector.

However, the DPP accused the KMT of trying to use the case to smear Tsai's reputation and undermine her chance of election.

Those who believe SID will act independently are absurdly crazy. For years, we've been proud of having a democratic system, in which speech freedom is the main essence set up by DPP notably. But judicial system still remains biased and rigged by the mighty KMT.
SID should spend more efforts to probe alleged scandals in Taipei Flora Expo, stupid Taichung "Dreamer" opera, unpaid tax by Taipei City during Ma's term and Ma's refusal to prove retrieval of US green card, etc. It's an astonishing joke for a female ex-legislator receiving a non-guilty verdict for her carry of that card. She's innocent as expected, a result KMT-linked members long enjoy.
SID can be praised by people if it cracks down frauds involving KMT as swiftly as it did toward Ms. Tsai. But don't expect that, as we have a very naive and skittish President who touts Taiwan's better GNP even in face of widening income gap, rising inflation and poor job market.
Taiwan must go forward on its own path not derailed by PRC threat. It just hurts, when you see more people roam on streets to collect recycled wastes for making a living. It hurts....
May God bless Formosa and lenient Taiwan folks.....

1- As a lawyer. Miss Tsai should know the definition of Civil Servants Law Act. She should NOT be the Chairperson of the Yu Chang and TaiMed under the Revolving Door Act EVEN her cronies offer the position to her (as SHE claimed).

2-The NDF funds belong to the people, because it's the TAXPAYER’S money. Miss Tsai should NOT practice WINDOW DRESSING transferring the NDF funds to Taimao and Yu Chang and who knows where.

3-Miss Tsai sold her Yu Chang shares and earned a profit with the Taxpayer money.

It's time that Miss Tsai speak out because the people have the RIGHT to know where their money were invested (3 company names) and who got the profits.
