Poll shows support for '1992 Consensus': MACFurthermore, around 80 percent said they support continuing talks to address any problems resulting from the increased exchanges between Taiwan and mainland China, the council said. Nearly 75 percent said they support the government's policy of “no unification, no independence and no use of force” to maintain Taiwan's status quo, the MAC said. The poll showed that about 52 percent disagreed with the statement by the opposition Democratic Progressive Party that the “1992 Consensus” was just an agreement reached between the ruling Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China. The “1992 Consensus” refers to a tacit understanding between Taiwan and China that “there is only one China but each side is free to interpret what 'one China' means.” | |||||||||||||
