Soong vows to run if camp gets 1 mil. signaturesWhether or not Soong will ultimately run will depend on the outcome of a 45-day signature campaign that begins on Sept. 22, according to Wu Kun-yu (吳崑玉), deputy director of the PFP public relations department, who revealed that Soong said in an exclusive interview he would request that he be proclaimed the “object of a joint signature campaign” by the Central Election Commission. If there are more than 1 million signatures collected, “I will certainly run,” Soon said an in interview. Taking such a step is an expression of his interest in running. It also means an effort to get admitted to the race, Wu said, adding that the PFP leader will request the relevant forms between Sept. 16 and 20. On the question of whether or not James Soong will be in the race until its conclusion on election day, Wu said that if more than one million voters endorse Soong's candidacy by giving their signatures, Soong would feel greatly heartened and would certainly run. If there are only 300,000 signatures collected, a number just above the legal threshold that qualifies him as a candidate not supported by a political party, Soong would be less willing to run because the chance of winning would be slim.
