French government, firm ordered to pay Taiwan US$913 mil.The MND's statement came after a civil court in Paris on Thursday threw out an appeal that the French parties filed in the wake of an arbitration ruling in favor of Taiwan. “The ministry feels gratified about the French court's ruling. It is the result of joint efforts made by many navy and military legal personnel,” MND spokesman Lo Shao-ho (羅紹和) said yesterday. The MND said in press statement yesterday that it will continue to follow legal procedures to ask Thales to fulfill its legal obligations, in order to uphold the rights of the country. The French government and Thales have said that they have agreed to pay Taiwan the court-ordered fine instead of filing another appeal, bringing to an end the two-decade dispute between Paris and Taipei.
