Global competitions a golden chance for business: TAITRATAITRA said Britain is expected to spend around US$15 billion on the 2012 London Olympics, while Brazil is expected to spend US$25.7 billion on the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics. The council said that for Taiwanese businessmen, the potential trade opportunities lie in information and communications products, sports goods, functional textile products, LEDs, solar panels and peripherals. In terms of the London Olympics, TAITRA believes the trade opportunities lie in sports goods, medical care and health equipment, packaging, transport and logistics, and security equipment. Among them, the energy-conserving products of Taiwan's Topco Technologies Corp. have been adopted by the London Olympics Organizing Committee and will be used in new product exhibition venue and outdoor parking lots. Taiwan's Acer is one of the premier sponsors of the International Olympic Committee and it is expected that Acer and related suppliers will benefit from the London Olympics, according to TAITRA. Turning to the World Cup and Rio Olympics in Brazil, TAITRA said that as Brazil has yet to enter the WTO Agreement on Government Procurement, it is difficult for Taiwan to gain a foothold in the trade opportunities presented by the construction of stadiums and traffic networks, although local companies can be indirectly involved through subcontracting. Taiwanese businesses could also export machinery, information and communications equipment to help Brazil's software and hardware development, as well as promote their sports goods, LEDs, functional textile products, solar panels and peripheral products. | |||||||||||||
