Cold temperatures to end, rain persistent : CWB

The China Post news staff--The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said the chilly, damp weather yesterday was the result of a strong, cold air mass from mainland China, adding that temperatures today should be significantly higher, although temperatures in the early morning and late night will remain low.

The cold air mass ushered in rain yesterday across Taiwan. Although weather conditions today are set to rise, the bureau said the Danshui area may experience temperatures as low as 10.5 degrees Celsius.

In terms of precipitation, the bureau predicts a 100 percent chance of rainfall for the northeastern regions and an 80 percent chance for central Taiwan. The south and southeastern areas had a 50 and 60 percent chance of rain, respectively.

According to CWB predictions, areas north of Hsinchu will see temperatures measured at around 11 degrees Celsius in the early morning, the chilliest being in the Danshui area at 10.5 degrees. Temperatures in central Taiwan will range from 12 to 13 degrees, while other regions will be around 16 to 18.

Northeastern areas will continue to see rain, with an average daytime temperature of 14 degrees Celsius. Southern areas may see a high of up to 20 degrees Celsius.

The cold air mass will become less severe today, the CWB said, adding that nighttime will remain cold and a great disparity between day and night temperatures is expected.
