Sun Moon Lake plans to build second ropewayThe second ropeway will run from Nantou's Checheng Station (車埕) to Hsiangshan (向山) and cover a total distance of 4.6 kilometers. The administration planned to have the ropeway built under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) or OT model, with the government constructing other facilities such as transit stations and parking lots to entice businesses to invest in ropeway construction, said the administration. The investment for the project is predicted to be around NT$2.5 billion. The construction will start in 2013 and is expected to finish in 2016. The first ropeway, with a total distance of 1.87 kilometers, connects Sun Moon Lake to the popular Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village (九族文化村). The construction cost around NT$1 billion and it's the first BOO (build-own-operate) structure in Taiwan as it was built and is operated by the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway Company. According to the ropeway company, the number of tourists in Nantou has increased from 3 million to over 7 million since the opening of the first ropeway, bringing in over NT$100 million in revenue. | |||||||||||||
