DPP has landslide win in by-elections“This win is the first step, the prelude, for the upcoming victory of the DPP in the 2012 presidential election,” Lin said yesterday during a press conference declaring victory over her Kuomintang (KMT) counterpart by a comfortable margin. Lin added that she will do her best during her tenure as lawmaker to listen to the voice of the people. In Tainan, Hsu said the victory is a timely encouragement for the DPP as the opposition party is now in high morale and with great momentum, heading to another victory in the 2012. “By the 2012 presidential election, the party will be presenting our elite members to run in the presidential seats,” he said. Meanwhile, in a separate press conference held in the DPP headquarters yesterday afternoon following the party candidates' victories, DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen said that the wins were the result of unification within the party. “The victory has further boosted our confidence in the year-end legislative election and presidential campaign,” she noted. The battle in Tainan saw Hsu beat both the KMT's Chen Shu-hui (陳淑慧) and also Independent Chen Yuan-chi (陳源奇), whose name was also on the ballot. In Kaohsiung, where voters also tend to favor the DPP, the ruling KMT party recruited former-DPP member Hsu Ching-huan (徐慶煌) to run against Lin. On the losing side, KMT Secretary-General Liao Liou-yi, (廖了以) accepted defeat in a press conference, saying there is still room for improvement for the party in the traditional strongholds of the opposition party. The by-elections in the two southern cities were the first polls since the highly competitive special municipality elections last November. The two legislative seats became vacant when Lai Ching-te was elected mayor of Tainan City and Chen Chi-yu was appointed as deputy mayor of Kaohsiung City. With yesterday's victories, the DPP now has 33 of all 109 legislative seats, still vastly outnumbered by the KMT's 73. The next legislative elections are due in December 2011 or January 2012, while the presidential poll is scheduled for March 2012. Comments March 6, 2011 CYanni_M@ Reply What an unfortunate incident.......what is happening to these people, why can't they learn from what happened during the tenure of Chen Shui Bian? All these DPP know is "finger pointing" games, they put all the blame to the other parties when in fact, when Chen Shui Bian took the seat, nothing is done to boost the economy of Taiwan, and what about tackling cross strait issues? And whatever happened to the money that Chen Shui Bien and family took? Will it be returned to Taiwan? Do the people of Taiwan deserve these lies and deceit? Should we continue to let these people use our money for their own luxurious lifestyle? Gosh, I wish the people of Taichung and Tainan will just wake up one day.... March 8, 2011 hsiehmingyu@ Puurlease... are you implying that all DPP supporters are corrupt? Or even all DPP politicians are so? Don't forget that the MOST corrupt political party in Taiwan, if not Asia, has and always will be the KMT. How much of public money has been siphoned off KMT over those decades before the DPP administration and YOU have the nerve to wag your finger at Greens on corruption???!!! HA bloody HA. Gimme a break CYanni. March 8, 2011 kmt4sale@ //Will it be returned to Taiwan? How about KMT return all the billions that have been taken away from Taiwanese people? //Do the people of Taiwan deserve these lies and deceit? Should we continue to let these people use our money for their own luxurious lifestyle? Ask yourself which political party in Taiwan amassed the billions of dollars that made them possibly THE RICHEST political party IN THE WORLD!!!! And which political party has members that are so stinking wealthy from the policies they have introduced that benefit them and their cronies? //"... let these people use our money for their own luxurious lifestyle?" HAHAHAHAHAHA... I’m not even gonna waste my time arguing this. It's common knowledge in Taiwan. Are you implying that if the KMTs are corrupt, it's alright for the DPP to be just as rotten (if not worse than) as the KMT? You do know that for Chen's second term, Taiwan had respectable economic growth with low inflation... of course you wouldn't know that because you are blind to the truth. March 9, 2011 carltanong@ The DPP win in Kaohsiung and Tainan by landslide was normal. But a Kaohsiung resident said it's because the DPP still has the momentum since the day Morakot, Demon Dalai Lama and Terrorist Rebiya Kadeer 10 conditions of love visited SOUTHERN TAIWAN and the DPP propaganda machines was running HOT up to now. He said the only way to stop the DPP from political gained with their "Art of Deception" is....oops sorry Sir Hsiehmingyu. I won't tell u at this moment. Otherwise he will become reluctant to return home to his home town in Kaohsiung. I had no intentions of dwelling in the past, but the reason your comment didn't sit too well with me was exactly the reason why the corrupt KMT comment didn't sit well with you. But to suggest that all DPP politicians are like CSB is like saying every KMT politician is like CKS. Re: blaming politicians. Yes, DPP blames KMT politicians for things... when it's during Ma administration. Likewise, KMT blames DPP for things during Chen administration. And don't try to deny it, cos it happened. Frankly, I think that this is an important element of a healthy democracy. Even though I probably lean more towards the Green side, I genuinely want and expect KMT to monitor DPP and put the administration under intense scrutiny so that there can be no wrongdoings etc. That is democracy - some things go in your favor, others don't. Finally, even though he calls himself Cloggedwithguts, I can bet you he daren't say it to people's faces because he wouldn't have the guts to - so he vents it on this forum. March 10, 2011 hsiehmingyu@ Carlton:I find your EVERY political position identical to that of the CCP. Dalai Lama, Rebiya Kadeer, Wuer Kaixi, Wang Dan, Liu Xiaobo, DPP... Question: Are you a CHICOM? :) Because if you aren't, I think you could probably get a job as well... might as well get paid for it right? Hahahaha. March 12, 2011 lotiti@ .....carltoon.....but chicom pay less. Ask Hsieh to recommend you to Chen shui bian for a job as comptroller that suited your life styles....Hsieh is Chen shui bian’s treasurer. hahahaha. hsieh hsieh to your feng yu. Hahahaha. March 31, 2011 ludahai_twn@ I love how the KMT and its supporters love to talk about the former president and the fact that he is in prison after a trial that didn't even come close to meeting standards of fairness and transparency. However, how many KMT legislators had their victories vacated after the last legislative elections? Another one lied for more than a decade about not being a dual-citizen and took taxpayer money while illegally serving as an elected civil servant. The KMT is still up to its old tricks. They focus on one man, but their entire party has a history and tradition of corruption that stinks to high heaven...
