Centennial Homestay program for youths starts

To celebrate the Republic of China's 100th anniversary, the International Youth Week - Centennial Homestay has officially been launched, said organizer Council for Culture Affairs (CCA).

The CCA will invite hundreds of outstanding individuals from more than 100 countries to come to Taiwan and participate in a homestay program in August 2011 for two weeks, the CCA said.

Premier Wu Den-yih joined Emile Chihjen Sheng, the Council for Culture Affairs Minister, at the opening ceremony in officially sending out invitations worldwide. They also invite Taiwan citizens to participate in the event by applying to become host families and volunteers. Minister Sheng said the event website has already started receiving applications from potential international guests as well as host families. The organizer stated that individuals from abroad aged between 18 and 40, speakers of either Chinese or English and proficient in blogging or other social media, are eligible to apply.

The selected international guests will be announced on the website at the end of May and the selected families will be announced in the middle of June, the organizer said.

The event website will feature a space for the international guests and host families to upload and share their homestay and hosting experiences, thus spreading their memories of the program to every corner of the world via Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, blogs and other social networking websites.
