Top KMT aide to quit if party fails to win 3 citiesKMT Secretary-General King Pu-tsung said that if the party could not capture three of the five mayoral seats up for grabs in the Nov. 27 polls, he would have to admit defeat. King said as early as February that failure to win a majority of the five municipalities — Taipei, Xinbei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung — would be considered a loss by the party. Under those circumstances, King said he would definitely take responsibility. “Actually, I would have no other choice (but to resign),” King said. Tainan and Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan are traditionally strongholds of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party, but the party is hoping to gain traction in the northern and central Taiwan constituencies held by the KMT over the past four years, which would position it favorably ahead of the 2012 presidential election. | |||||||||||||
