Updated Wednesday, September 8, 2010 4:14 pm TWN, By Duncan Levine, Special to The China Post ECCT makes progress on foreigners' issuesOver the summer, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) has installed “express counters” (dedicated passport inspection lanes) for foreign nationals holding Alien Resident Certificates (ARCs) and Alien Permanent Resident Certificates (APRCs) to use when passing through immigration at TTIA and Kaohsiung international airports. This has helped to speed up the immigration process for foreign nationals at the airports. In addition, applying for mobile telecommunication services has become easier. Formerly, when foreign nationals applied for mobile phone services, most telecom' operators required a co-signer (guarantor) or deposit. However, recently both Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone have announced that they will no longer require a cosigner or a deposit for foreign nationals who either hold ARCs with a validity of at least 12 months; have subscribed to their services for at least 12 months and enjoy good credit histories; or hold APRCs.
