The duo was the second pair formed by players from the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to advance in the tournament's women's doubles. Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei and China's Peng Shuai also reached the second round. Chan began playing with Zheng in February and the pair have twice reached the final four in international events. They are seeded seventh. Despite being optimistic about playing with Chan, Zheng expressed concern that Chan will have trouble performing at her best because of the strain of competing in the singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles in the same tournament.
