Updated Friday, September 3, 2010 1:30 pm TWN, The China Post news staff Retirement dreams vary between sexesHowever, both dreams may be just a little out of reach according to industry experts, who attest that the majority of working adults today rarely save enough money in pension funds to live out such lofty, post-retirement existences. The online study, conducted by 104 Job Bank and Money Magazine, surveyed 2,141 working adults nationwide. The findings showed that while almost 80 percent of workers wish to retire before they turn 60, only 40 percent actually believe they have the means to do so. The men and women surveyed also had very different visions of life as an idyllic retiree. The majority of men surveyed (26 percent) want a hermitic existence in the countryside, while 22 percent would love to travel the world. The majority of women (27 percent) wished to permanently relocate overseas while 26 percent favored world travel. According to the analysis of a 104 Job Bank director, the reason behind the laid-back retirement for men is that they are generally under greater pressure at work. Women are generally productive, even in their downtime, hence the lust for travel. Wang Li-ling, deputy director of the Pension Fund Association, said the majority of people don't start planning for retirement until they are 45; she advised the currently employed to start saving between the ages of 25 to 30 in order to realize their dreams.
