Updated Tuesday, August 31, 2010 10:58 am TWN, CNA Three typhoon warnings issued, torrential rain nationwide: CWBThe storm was centered about 470 kilometers west-southwest of Hengchun in the southernmost county of Pingtung at 8 a.m. and was moving in a northeasterly direction at a speed of 2 kilometers per hour, with a probability of heading northwest in the future, the bureau said. The bureau issued a torrential rain warning, saying the depression system, slowly approaching the island in a north-northwesterly track, will interact with the outer bands of Lionrock, causing heavy rainfall. According to bureau statistics, rain accumulation from midnight to 8 a.m. Monday morning reached 122 mm in Sinwu Township in Taoyuan County and exceeded 50 mm in the Beitou and Yangmingshan areas of Taipei. Another tropical storm, Kompasu, is forming in the Japan-held Ryukyu Islands but will not affect Taiwan, the bureau said, adding that it is closely watching for interaction between Kompasu and Lionrock.
